He is also the President of the UK branch. He started Judo around 45 years ago, but during this time has also graded in Ju Jutsu and Aikido. Mike believes in the old style of Judo which teaches all the techniques developed by the founder of Judo, Jigori Kano, even though some of them are not taught any more. He also recognises that the sports side is important as well, which is why thye club also teaches the Olympic style as well.

Kevin Chamberlain is a BJA registered 2nd Dan and a UKCC qualified Level 2 Judo coach. He started Judo 40 years ago when he was 9 and has been practising ever since (with a few years off here and there !). During his younger years he was never encouraged to do competitions but during his career as a policeman he won the Metropolitan Police Judo Championships several times and also medalled in the National Police Championships. Although Judo is his first love he has dabbled in many other martial arts and also holds grades in Karate, Nunchaku-Do, Japanese Ju Jitsu and Brazilian Jui Jitsu. During his time as a Policeman he also taught Self-defence courses to the Police.

Kevin states that Judo is the best martial art for self-defence, fitness and discipline as well as being a highly competitive Olympic Sport and would encourage children and adults of all ages to give it a go.
